Handmade tiles make the difference

My Process

My particular technique of mosaic construction, I first start with wet clay, then shape the clay to create the various pieces needed to complete a project. These hand shaped pieces are then bisque fired, glazes are then applied to give the pieces their lasting color and fired again. I select from these finished tiles to create my mosaic projects.

Artist Bio

My art is deeply influenced by my childhood visits to Europe, where I was captivated by the vibrant folk art traditions that adorned my relatives' homes. My parents, who immigrated to the United States in 1952, settled in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. There, my sister and I grew up in our parents' tailor shop, surrounded by colorful fabrics and rich textures—elements that sparked my early artistic sensibilities.

I attended Milwaukee Technical High School, where I focused on commercial art, and then served in the military after graduation. Upon my honorable discharge, I pursued a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the University of Wisconsin. A successful career in graphic design followed, and I eventually opened my own studio, where I had the privilege of working with notable clients such as Miller Brewing Company, Harley-Davidson Motor Company, and Kohler Company.

In 2003, after relocating to California, my focus shifted toward fine art, and I began to expand my work in mosaics and painting. My paintings have been showcased at The Bergamot Station Art Center in Santa Monica, CA, while both my mosaics and paintings have been featured at The Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard, CA.
